  NEAR THE SUCCESS: 2nd GATTO AND 3rd VISCONTI IN FIRST STAGE OF SARDINIA

First stage of Tour of Sardinia, Olbia-Bonorva (km 144). Oscar Gatto has lost the sprint and Gavazzi (Lampre) won his first race of 2010. “I started the sprint too early and Gavazzi passed me in the end” – Gatto explained.
BONORVA (SS) – “I anticipated the sprint for take out Visconti, but Gavazzi was better us”Gatto explained a few minutes after the first stage of Tour of Sardinia. He is sure of his condition, growing day by day: “I followed Failli started at 600 metres from the finish line, with Visconti at the wheel I started my sprint at 450 metres. Behind us I noted the group lined and I felt good, but Gavazzi was better then us and pass us in the last 50 metres". With Gatto, there was also Visconti, in the wheel of his teammate: “When Gatto started his sprint, I tried to follow him but I wasn’t able to pass him. In this moment I’m not in the best condition, but I grew all the days and I’m sure that this Tour is very important for my physical condition”.
The race lived on a long escape with Simon Clarke (Isd – Neri), Didac Ortega (Acqua & Sapone), Freddy Bichot (Bbox Bouygues Telecom) and Leonardo Giordani (Ceramica Flaminia) Giairo Ermeti (De Rosa – Stac Plastic), started by 2 km and they are taken by the group at 30 km to the arrive. After this, the group is arrived to the finishline together, and Gavazzi arrived before Gatto, Visconti and Failli, in this order.

1. Francesco Gavazzi (Lampre – Farnese Vini) km 144,2 in 4h16'50”, media 33,687 km/h;
2. Oscar Gatto (Isd – Neri);
3. Giovanni Visconti (Isd – Neri);

4. Francesco Failli (Acqua & Sapone);
5. Przemyslaw Niemec (Miche);
6. Damiano Caruso (De Rosa – Stac Plastic);
